The usual processing methods of molding parts
Apart from a few basic components, injection mold consists of many other parts, and the processing of parts takes the majority of mold fabrication. Generally, it includes mechanical processing, special processing, surface processing, and heat treatment, etc.
1) All the parts inside a mold are made of metal, so we should use mechanical processing to cut the stainless steel according to the drawing requirements.
2) The most important part inside the mold is a cavity and it is the most difficult part. The cavity is usually with a curve surface and made under the control of the 3D dimension. So we should use some special processing, such as electrical discharge machining, electroforming processing, CNC machining, etc.
3) Surface finishing is one of the most important ways to measure a mold, for some conventional mechanicals it is hard to achieve that, now some special surface finishing methods are used: grinding polishing, squeeze grinding polishing, electrochemistry polishing, ultrasonic polishing and shot peening, etc.
4) Mold will be used for thousands(some even up to million) times, and the long time working and high pressure will lead to a lot of attrition. So the proper heat treatment for some parts is quite necessary.
Structure and characteristics of molding hot runner
Hot runners are a method of carrying out molding without generating scraps by heating and melting the runner part during plastic injection molding. Various types of structures have been realized for hot runners such as the method of heating or injecting. The major hot runner structures and their characteristics are as follows:
1. Open gate structure
- Controls the nozzle temperature to a constant value
- The structure is simple and the number of constituent parts is small
- Knowing how is required for temperature control
- The gate part can become solidified easily
- Depending on the plastic, stringiness of the gate plastic can easily occur
2. On-off control structure
- The gate is heated during injection, and at the end of injection the gate is left to cool

3. Hot edge gate structure
- The gate part is sheared off at the time of opening the mold

- The opening and closing of the gate is forcibly controlled by the valve pin
- The gate seal is definite because it is mechanical
- It is easy to control the molding conditions
- A source for driving the opening and closing of the valve pin will be required
- It is necessary to manage the maintenance of the sliding of the valve pin
